Bookmark Pruning
I’m trying to make a habit of pruning things I don’t need, particularly digitally. A lot of this is after reading about digital resiliency, and while I’m not at the point of resetting my phone and PC, removing unused things can reduce stress. Less things to consider, less stress.
I still use bookmarks in my browser since it’s easy, and currently have 487. The overwhelming majority have not been revisited and can be deleted. Also, many are inaccessable now:
Loaded 487 bookmarks. Checking each URL with 20 concurrent requests...
Done in 96.6s.
200 OK: 374
Not OK: 110
Skipped: 3
Total: 487
Much of adding a bookmark to something makes an obligation to read/watch it later on. This is similar to adding a movie to my watchlist - it’s very easy but then obligates 2 hours of my time in the future. Worse still for books, or long games.
I probably don’t still need visa information for a holiday taken 3 years ago bookmarked. And a lot of saved podcasts, videos, long essays that I’d “get to later” are now gone.
Bookmarks are reliable, but you have to actually use them.
